Bookworm, writer, radio host—I blog about history, fiction, and publishing in the Internet Age. You can find the full blog on my website. This space is for books.
Finally, halfway through, this book is acquiring some momentum. Most of the characters, (excepting only Strike and his conflicted sidekick—is it a coincidence that her name is Robin, and she is a kind of Girl Wonder?), remain flat to the point of indistinguishable. But Strike has decided that his employer may not be a complete nut job for thinking his sister didn't jump to her death but was pushed.
As a result, I am beginning to believe Strike wants something in life besides cold, hard cash and the return of a woman who is clearly a disaster waiting to happen (and whom he does not seem to love, whatever he says about her) .
Something to root for. There's hope!
