Bookworm, writer, radio host—I blog about history, fiction, and publishing in the Internet Age. You can find the full blog on my website. This space is for books.
It's not quite the story I thought it was, by which I mean that I have read this book before, but so long ago that I confused it with another, similar Heyer novel. And I can't say that it's Heyer's best—more a B or a B+ than an A.
But ... it's Heyer, and the character descriptions and snide Austen-like commentary are just marvelous. I think I appreciate that more than I did when I was younger, even if I can see the resolution coming a mile off (to be fair, I probably remember the ending subconsciously).
