C. P. Lesley

Bookworm, writer, radio host—I blog about history, fiction, and publishing in the Internet Age. You can find the full blog on my website. This space is for books.

1. Are you named after anyone?

My parents say no, but I did have a great-aunt with a similar name.

2. When was the last time you cried?

Watching American Pharoah cross the finish line. I'm very sentimental.

3. Do you have kids?

One, the Filial Unit. I try not to embarrass him on the Internet.

4. If you were another person, would you be a friend of yourself?

I think so. We would have a lot in common.

5. Do you use sarcasm a lot?

Only 50 times a day.

6. Will you ever bungee-jump?

Not in a million years. I can't even stand near the edge.

7. What’s your favorite cereal?

Mini Shredded Wheats, if they are really toasty. But grits will do in a pinch, so long as there's butter—and pepper.

8. What’s the first thing you notice about people?

Whether they look bookish.

9. What is your eye colour?

10. Scary movie or happy endings?

Happy endings. I am not only sentimental but a complete wimp.

11. Favorite smells?

Chocolate. Good coffee. Baking bread. And did I mention chocolate?

12. Summer or winter?

Summer. I hate snow, unless I am on the inside looking out with no need to shovel. Why I study Russia instead of the Caribbean is an eternal mystery to me. In fact, why do I live in the Northeast US?

13. Computer or television?

Computer. I always forget to turn on the TV.

14. What’s the furthest you’ve ever been from home?

Russia, in winter. Sometimes I wonder about myself.

15. Do you have any special talents?

I tell myself lovely stories; I always have.

16. Where were you born?

Coventry, England. Left at 18 months and have never gone back, so I can't say it made much of an impression. I did love reading Connie Willis's "To Say Nothing of the Dog," though.

17. What are your hobbies?

Writing, ballet, blogging, and ... wait for it ... reading.

18. Do you have any pets?

Two cats, one Siamese and the other a rescue cat who looks Siamese but isn't—at least not completely.

19. Favorite movie?

Hard choice, but I think I have to say "The Age of Innocence." I am madly in love with Daniel Day Lewis. My husband copes pretty well, all told.

20. Do you have any siblings?

A sister and a brother. It's not their fault: I was there first.

21. What do you want to be when you grow up?

A ballerina, but I am too old. It will have to wait for my next life.
